Upma also called as uppit is a think porridge made using sooji or semolina. Most commonly cooked in South India, Maharashtra and Sri Lanka.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Sooji / Semolina
- 3 cups water
- 3 tsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp jeera (optional)
- 1 tbsp chana dal
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- 4-5 curry leaves
- 6-7 green chillies
- salt to taste
- 1 lemon
- coriander leaves
Method:
- Firstly dry roast sooji in a pan. Till sooji turns light brown color.
- In same pan heat some oil . Put mustard seeds into it and let it pop.
- Add jeera, chana dal, urad dal and let it turn brown.
- Add curry leaves and green chillies to it.
- Add water and let it boil, add salt.
- Now gradually add sooji into it and stir continuously so that no lumps are formed.
- Sometime later bubbles are formed keep mixing continuously.
- Pour lemon juice from a lemon to it mix well.
- Garnish it with coriander leaves and freshly grated coconut.
- Upma is ready to serve.
