Dry palak dal recipe | How to make Dry palak dal | Medley-Of-Flavours

Dry Palak dal is a healthy dal recipe. High in Iron contents and a lots of nutrients also low in calories. It can be served with rice or roti.


Ingredients:

  1. 250 gms Spinach
  2. 1/4 cup Toor dal
  3. 1 tbsp Oil
  4. 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  5. Curry leaves
  6. Salt
  7. Water
  8. 7- 9 Green chilies

Preparation:

  • Chop spinach and green chilies.
  • Wash toor dal twice or thice with water.
  • Pressure cook toor dal in a cooker with water for 2 whistles or till cooked.
  • Let the pressure release completely.

How to make Dry Palak Dal:

  • In a kadhai heat some oil. Add mustard seeds into it and let them splutter.
  • Now, add curry leaves, finely chopped green chilies and chopped spinach saute for a minute or so.
  • Mix cooked toor dal into this. 
  • Add salt to taste.
  • Saute for a while or till everything is mixed well.
  • Garnish it with some coriander leaves.
  • Dry Palak dal is ready to be served.

Cooking time: 10 mins

Tomato Pappu recipe | Tomato Dal | How to make tomato pappu

Tomato pappu/dal is inspired by andhra cuisine and is the most common dal usually served in South India as well. This is usually served with white rice. It tastes good with roti/pulka as well. This dal is slightly tangy in taste as it has tomatoes in it.


Ingredients:

  1. 1/4 cup Toor dal
  2. 3 Tomatoes
  3. 2 Onions
  4. 7 green chilies
  5. 1 tsp red chili powder
  6. Salt
  7. Curry leaves
  8. 1 pinch of Hing
  9. Water
  10. Coriander leaves
  11. Few Spinach leaves
  12. 1/4 tsp turmeric
  13. 2 tbsp Oil
  14. 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds

Preparation:

  • Wash toor dal twice or thrice with water.
  • Wash tomatoes, onions and chop them into large pieces.
  • Wash spinach and chilies. 
  • Chop spinach leaves and split green chilies into two pieces.

How to make tomato dal:

  • In a pressure cooker, add toor dal, chopped tomatoes,onions,green chilies, spinach leaves.
  • Add water till all the ingredients are soaked and cook till 2 whistles.
  • In a kadhai or pan heat oil.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop.
  • Now, add curry leaves, hing, turmeric powder.
  • Add the cooked dal into the pan.
  • Add salt, red chili powder and water if required to adjust the consistency.
  • Finally add coriander leaves.
Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 30 mins

Palak Dal | Spinach Dal | Medley-Of-Flavours

Palak dal is a healthy dal recipe. High in Iron contents and a lots of nutrients also low in calories.

Ingredients:

  1. 250 gms Spinach
  2. 1/4 cup Toor dal
  3. 1 tbsp Oil
  4. 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  5. 1 tsp Jeera
  6. Curry leaves
  7. Pinch of Hing
  8. 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  9. Salt
  10. Water
  11. 7 Green chilies
  12. Fried onions for garnish

Preparation:

  • Chop spinach and green chilies.
  • Pressure cook toor dal in a cooker with water till 2 whistles.
  • Let the pressure release completely. Add turmeric and salt to taste and keep aside.
  • In a kadhai heat some oil. Add mustard seeds into it and let them splutter.
  • Now, add jeera, hing, curry leaves, finely chopped green chilies and chopped spinach saute for a minute or so.
  • Mix cooked toor dal into this. Add water to adust the consistency.
  • Cook till bubbles are formed on top of dal.
  • Garnish it with some coriander leaves and fried onions.
  • Palak dal is ready to be served.

Toor dal Recipe | Medley-Of-Flavours

Toor dal which is also known as pigeon peas goes very well with rice or even roti.

Ingredients:

  1. 1/4 cup Toor dal
  2. 1 tbsp Oil
  3. 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  4. 1 tsp Jeera
  5. Few garlic cloves
  6. Curry leaves
  7. Pinch of Hing
  8. 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  9. Salt
  10. Water
  11. 9 Green chilies
  12. Few Black pepper corns

Preparation:

  • Pressure cook toor dal in a cooker with water till 2 whistles.
  • Let the pressure release completely. Add turmeric and salt to taste and keep aside.
  • In a kadhai heat some oil. Add mustard seeds into it and let them splutter.
  • Now, add jeera,garlic cloves, hing, pepper corns, curry leaves, split green chilies and saute for a minute or so.
  • Mix cooked toor dal into this. Add water to adust the consistency.
  • Cook till bubbles are formed on top of dal.
  • Garnish it with some coriander leaves.
  • Toor dal is ready to be served.
